What is the difference between court mounting and swing mounting?
Court mounting is the type of mounting that we do as the standard. It involves wrapping ribbon around a stiff frame, and then tying the medals down to it. In this manner, the medals do not knock around and get chipped over time. We recommend court mounting all medals.
Swing mounting is when the medals are sewn directly onto a metal bar and pin for wear. They are free-swinging, and prone to chipping and wear over time. We can do this method of mounting, but there is an additional cost.
Can my medals be cleaned/re-ribboned before being mounted?
Absolutely - we can give your medals a gentle cleaning, using non-abrasive methods that will bring the parade-square lustre back to your medals for another generation. Unless specifically requested not to, we will generally give all medals that enter our shop both a light cleaning to remove surface dirt and will re-ribbon the medals using clean, new ribbon.
Is it safe to send my medals through the mail?
We have been doing mail-order medal mounting for over ten years now, and have never had a problem with shipping medals in the mail. Of course, we always recommend using a tracked and insured method to ship your medals to us. We recommend, and use, Canada Post Xpresspost for shipping medals.
How long will the process take?
For medal mounting, we generally try to have a two-week turnaround, though often it's much quicker than that. Sometimes, as in the case of large queues in our shop (the lead up to November 11 is a typical example), or if we need to source an obscure medal or ribbon to complete your set, it could take longer. We will always advise you if the turnaround time on your set will be longer than anticipated.
For shadow box presentations, the average time is eight weeks. This allows us time to work with you on the layout, and to properly do the mat cutting and presentation. We generally have a few boxes on the go or in our queue, and definitely don't want to rush this process. Again, if it's going to take longer, we will let you know.
What are my payment options and how do they work?
We offer a variety of payment methods to suit our customers' needs:
1. If we're meeting in person, we're happy to accept cash from you, but please do not send cash in the mail.
2. We accept cheques and money orders, made out to "MedalMounting.ca"
3. We also accept major credit cards - we use Paypal.com as our secure online processor. We send you an invoice via email that you can pay securely from home. You do not need to be a member of Paypal to use your credit card, and we never hold your sensitive credit card information. Paypal.com is an industry leader in online payment processing.
4. We accept Interac.ca email money transfers. This is basically an online funds transfer. You log into your online banking system, click on the 'email money transfer' button, and enter in our email address and the amount. You'll have to create a security question and answer, and email us the answer in a separate email.
