Why frame your service memorabilia?
If you're like most folks, over the years you've accumulated a wealth of memorabilia that probably fits well into a drawer, a barracks box or a shoebox somewhere in your house. Or, you've inherited items from a a family member, and you aren't quite sure how to best commemorate this important portion of your family's history.
Instead of letting it gather dust in the basement, or risk losing it in a move, or letting the kids get at it while playing war, why not let MedalMounting.ca take your items and put them in a classy and unostentatious display that will become a family heirloom for generations. Our medal mounting experience, coupled with our love of military history (the founder is a BA in History from the Royal Military College of Canada) and a long list of local and international suppliers ensures that the final product that you receive is something that can be proudly hung on a wall anywhere in your home
We work hard to ensure that your every single need is met. Our shadow boxes are craftsman built - to order - there is no need to purchase a shoddy, mass-produced, machine-made box from a big-box department store. Sure, the cost is a bit more to do it this way, but aren't the sacrifices made by Canada's men and women in uniform worth that extra expense? The fifty dollar box purchased at the department store is perfectly acceptable for certain items, but if you want your military items to really be showcased, and folks visiting your house to say "Wow!", then custom framing and presentation is the only way to go.
We only use acid-free materials, and do all of our mat-cutting in house using professional equipment. Your items will be treated with care and presented in a manner that shows them off. The box will be put together with you in mind - we build these presentations so that they will easily fit in with the decor in your family room, den, study or office. You won't find another box like yours anywhere, and you can be proud to display it.
Now, if the worst has happened, and you are missing medals, cap badges, or other related items, we can replace them with quality replicas, or in some cases even source originals.
We can also take your negative film or old film slides and scan them into prints. Nearly all of our presentations feature a photograph of the veteran - we take your original photo, scan them, touch them up as required, and create a presentation that includes their service information and information about the period in which they served. The result is a custom photo with information that can't always be captured in a small engraved plaque.
The overall process can take upwards of eight weeks. This is a result of the extensive work that we put into every box. We're not in the business of slapping together a presentation for a quick profit. We want the end result to be perfection. We are in contact with you throughout the process, letting you know how we are getting on. We have extensive experience shipping our boxes across Canada and to the United States.
How much does this cost? A 16"x16" (inner dimensions) shadow box presentation starts at $400.00. A 20"x24" (inner dimension) presentation starts at $500.00. We can also do other sizes. Tax and shipping are extra, as are any replica medals or items you might need to finish the box. A 50% deposit is required upon approval of our quote, with the balance due when you approve our final work, before we ship.

RCAF Shadow Box
This customer wanted to add the various cap badges that her husband had worn during his time in service, as well as his ID discs, medals and collar pins.

RCAF Tartan
This customer had a piece of RCAF Tartan that they wanted to incorporate into the presentation. We were more than happy to oblige!

RCAF Badges
This customer had inhereted his grandfather's items, including a couple of leather jacket patches that we incorporated into the presentation. We also shrunk down a squadron picture and did a small montage on this 20"x24" shadow box.

Red Cross
This customer's husband had just lost his favourite aunt. She came to us with her WW2 Red Cross items, which we incorporated into a red and white matted 20"x24" shadow box for a classy and appropriate memorial. The aunt's favourite wood was cherry wood, so the box was built using that particular material.

Battle of Britain
Of the battle, Churchill said that 'Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few'. This customer commissioned us to build a 20"x24" shadow box presentation to commemorate her father's service as a pilot during the Battle of Britain, where he was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross. She also had us create two more identical boxes using replica medals, replica wings and cap badges.

This customer had a specific layout in mind for the 16"x16" shadow box he wanted built to commemorate his grandfather's service as a Navigator, which we were happily able to create for him.

Home from the War
This customer had a large war print that was made up to honour his father's war service. We scanned it and used it for the background of this box. He wanted the box to look like his dad had come home from the war, and had emptied his pockets onto the coffee table. This free-form box was the result.

Mentioned in Dispatches
This customer's dad was mentioned in dispatches during the war. Her sister ended up with the original medals and MID certificate. From a picture, we were able to replicate the original MID certificate, and with replicas we created a new shadow box so she too could commemorate his service in the war in her own home.

Digger
This customer's grandfather was an Australian Sergeant in the First World War. He had us mount the medals and include his grandfather's sergeant rank and a picture in this shadow box.
